Q: Why once I get something I want, the good feeling doesn’t last? New MJ Awakening Blog

Michael Jeffreys

Q: Why once I get something I want, the good feeling doesn’t last?

This is how the seeking mind is… once it gets what it thinks it wants, it’s designed to lose interest so that seeking will continue. Wash, rinse, repeat. It’s endless.

This is why no object (person, place, thing, thought, feeling, experience, etc.) can make us happy indefinitely. Because new is valued over known by the mind. And yet the kicker is nothing is actually truly knowable! Nobody knows what THIS is, as THIS has never stopped changing so there is nothing solid that can ever be known. In Zen it’s said, “To know is not really to know. To not know, is to know.”

* 12 Principles for a Happier Life

Find Your Middle Ground

happiness is a choice

I’m doing some Spring cleaning of inspiring resources on happiness, navigating the highs and lows in life  and bringing about positive change. If you are ready for a Spring makeover, this is a really good one 🙂

The following principles are simple, and may be familiar to you if you are on a spiritual path. You don’t need to make big changes all at once, a tiny change adhered to is more powerful than a half hearted bigger one!

1. Attend to your life, no one else’s. Instead of focusing outside yourself, trying to control or change other people, pay attention to yourself. The people around us reflect who we are. Our reactions to others tells us that what we need to work on in ourselves– the only thing we really have control over. Every encounter is an opportunity to learn and to help another. Live and let live.

Getting Clear about Transformation

Find Your Middle Ground

Most of us spend our time and energy trying to transform our experience of life. When things are difficult, we blame circumstances, someone else, or ourselves. We take on new things and make new goals. We may change jobs, move house, or get divorced, to move away from our circumstances.

We move away from the discomfort.

And we somehow find ourselves feeling the same way in the next job, the next house, the next marriage …

In this society we are constantly being pressured to focus on the external and to acquire things in order to be “successful” and to feel good about ourselves. The message is “you deserve better” or “this will make you happy”.

Instead of moving from job to job, wanting things to be different and wishing for events to change, pause and notice how you are resisting what you are experiencing…

Questions ???

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is getimage-3.jpeg

Warning! This blog is for those who prefer questions over answers! If you are looking for answers you need to look elsewhere. This blog is about opening your mind to self-reflection. It is about questioning yourself to find answers, This is not to suggest that we have all the answers inside ourselves. It is to suggest that our own mind is a great place to start the search. By looking at what we do, how we do it and why we do it; we can learn about who we are. If perspective is reality, (it is isn’t it?), then by looking at who we are, we may be able to answer questions from our own unique perspective.

A question invites exploration. It is open to research. It often requires thought and reflection. It provides ideas. An answer gives a solution, a fact or information. Closed questions which require a yes…

Who Am I?

Source of Inspiration

goat and man

Is my soul who I am,
housed in a body to
experience life as a human?
To what purpose is my journey
here and where does the soul
go in the end? Age old questions
answered by religions, guesses
and hopes. Answered but still
they remain. What is the soul…
is there as soul? In the end,
only time will tell for all
else is speculation.

O ne must find its essence within
U nderstanding is not knowing

God is not a scholar

Musings of a Wanderer

God is not a scholar. He is a LOVER 💖💕

Today is the birthday (Janamasthami) of Lord Krishna. He sang His eternal song of love through the divine melody of His flute more than 5000 years ago.

God is Love and Love is all there is 💖

When you pass on to the other side, God is not going to ask you: How many houses you had, how many cars you had, what was the last position you held. He is not going to ask you –How much you loved your parents, your children or your spouse. He is not going to ask you whether you loved Trump or Obama; whether you loved Modi or Nehru; whether you loved Kohli or Cook; Messi or Ronaldo! He is going to ask you only one question, ” How much did you love Me, My child?”

Love God, your Lord with all your…

Celebrating Color

Heaven On Earth

There is not much left color left in my gardens. What I am showing you today bloomed and went down fast. It seems we’ve gone from a very hot Summer to a big dive in temperatures all in a blink of an eye. I’ve begun closing up my gardens for the year but I don’t know if I will complete the job. I’ll do what I can. As I just said recently, I need to be in two places at once right now. My housework was put on hold while my sole focus was Cookie so now I’m behind the eight ball catching up cleaning and my gardens meanwhile, a huge endeavor in of themselves, have to be closed for the Winter months.

One step at a time.

Please enjoy the impressive color Mother gave me as She heralded the coming Celebration of Cookie’s Homecoming.

If I am not getting…

Stine Writing

Written for: https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/43696118/posts/2921831457

Your auto-biography begins here. Break up your life (up to this point in time) into three chapters. Give each chapter a title.

Write three brief poems (one for each title). For added pats on the back, give your “book” a title as well (the title of your three chapter story).

Creativity Comes Full Circle

Chapter 1:

My favorite toys were miniatures
Holly Hobby spent hours with me
The Smurfs made me anything but blue
Mr. Rogers lived in a neighborhood I wanted
Stuffed animals were real and had feelings
Little People were really part of the family

Chapter 2:

My favorite people were miniatures
I was lucky to bear two beautiful little beings
I taught young, innocent minds
I developed positive experiences in small doses
I am a mother, a teacher, a role model

Chapter 3:

My favorite hobby is making miniatures
Small plants
Tiny furniture

On our History Books

The Bach

I hated learning history when I was in school. It was one of the most pointless subject with its only aim to test my memorization skills. The chapters were absolute bullshit with highly incoherent storylines filled with unnecessary detailing on who ate, who fought and who died and most irritatingly “When”. Chapters had too many inconsistencies, unnecessary propaganda of few dynasties and of course two supermassive black holes right in middle !.

Let me summarize 12 years of History text books in one paragraph. It started with Harappa who are supposedly aliens with no connection to Indian civilisation. (Then comes the first black hole of 10 centuries). History then restarts during Mauryan period, Alexander, Kushans, Guptas and then a break! (The second black hole of about 10 more centuries). During this period Indians sat on beach, yawned and waited someone to make their life interesting. Apparently, our history wasn’t worth…

My Forgotten Love and Joy 💕

Musings of a Wanderer

This post is dedicated to my beautiful and creative niece: Barbara. In her response to the nomination of Small Joy Tag of mine, she had mentioned her love for the sea 🌊

And this made me think: I love the sea so much but hadn’t mentioned it in my list of 15 Small Joys 🤔 One reason of course is that there are hundreds of things that give me joy 😊 and the other was: I had mentioned only those joys which have been around me these past 5-6 months 🤩 and had completely forgotten my amazing last year and my love for sea. Out of sight, out of mind 😇

It was just last year and it appears like another life time! Less than a year ago I had gone to East Coast of North America to see the fall colours. It feels like a dream now!…

A Diplomatic Brutal Honesty

The Lightening bug

We all grow up believing that ‘honesty is the best policy,’ but adulthood sometimes, may shake the very foundation of this belief. Even so, some situations need you to be completely honest while you need to go a little soft on your words in some others. In certain situations, you may find yourself at crossroads. You may be asking yourself if you should choose honesty or diplomacy.

Many people believe being diplomatic is nothing but being a liar. If you are going to be asked by a person, the password to your locker, will you give it to him? You obviously won’t? Where’s the honesty gone now? Please answer the poor soul, honestly! That’ll be sheer dumbness if you tell it. So, Is it wrong to lie? Yes, but this aspect can be made flexible depending upon the depth of the relationship of the person you are…

Things that can Destroy your Motivation

Coaching Skills International

Things that can destroy your motivation include:

1. Not having goals. You can’t reach your goals if you don’t know what they are.

2. Choosing goals that don’t inspire you. You won’t be able to keep on going if the prize at the end doesn’t really matter to you.

3. Expecting immediate results. Anything worthwhile is a battle and a struggle. It takes times and effort to bring about a change.

4. Lack of support. We all need someone to believe in us and to be our cheerleader when we start to feel discouraged.

5. Not believing in yourself. As Henry Ford so wisely said: “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

6. Feeling bored. Most success involves a lot of humdrum work, and repeatedly doing the same kind of stuff. But each day brings you closer to achieving what you want.

7. Inaction and…

The Social Vigilante

“I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.”

In dark hours of the chilly winter night of 2015, I was lying under my blanket reasoning with oneself about recharging my monthly internet pack and my salary account balance looked paltry. At that time, it was a gritty decision to make whether to recharge my “Smart Phone” or not. The Internet revolution had already knocked the doors of India by then, so now it was only the decision to be made of sacrificing dinner at my favorite place and with the money I could recharge my phone with Tata Docomo pack of Rs 256 for 1GB/Month (Disclaimer:- Those days it was 1 GB/month not 1GB a day). I still fondly remember those days when we survived with that 1 gb pack for whole month, the…

Questions from the Optimist Creed

Photo by Vinicius Altava on Pexels.com

It was over 100 years ago that Christian D. Larson wrote The Optimist Creed. Is it still relevant today? Do you know people who could use some optimism? Perhaps the question should be asked this way: as we struggle through the pandemic, the racial unrest and the economic challenges, could you use a shot of optimism? Could positive responses to these questions make your day better? or enhance the lives of others you know?

Are you strong enough that nothing can disturb your peace of mind? Would you like to be?

Do you talk of health, happiness and prosperity with everyone you meet? Would you like being in the company of someone who does?

Do you make all your friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them?

Do you look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true?
